It all depends on the map you're playing on. When you're a new sniper, Bridge is the easiest to train on, even though most sniper spots are quickly taken by players. On Bridge, you can constantly scan the whole middle of the bridge (as defense, that is) with your scopes on, as you only have to move your sights a little bit. If you've got a sight that covers all of the center, I'd recommend this order: check left of the center arch, and the catwalks, then move your scope right to look at the center arch itself (I've made quite a few kills there on players who went prone behind de corner, thus exposing all of their body if you're in a good position ), then move to the right to check there. Next thing, NEVER to forget, is to move your scopes up and check the center arch top. A few tips: - if someone can see you, you can see them. If you constantly find yourself under fire, take a peek. The head of your opponent will be popped out somewhere, and muzzle flashes can greatly help you searching. Once you know his position, have a little prayer that he's inexperienced and stays where he is, move a little, and pop a bullet in his head . - As a sniper, you've got a scope. Use it, for god's sake. If you see someone moving, ALWAYS doublecheck if he's OPFOR. As a sniper, you'll have plenty of opportunity to hit someone when targeting them. If you've got a bit of experience with your weapon, you'll be able to quickly target and eliminate anything that comes into your sight. This is great, but make sure you don't shoot at teammates. When every shot is a kill, this can cost you a lot. - Take your time to scan around. This way you can prevent team killing, but you should also watch out not to shoot at every enemy that comes from behind his cover. wait until he feels safe again, then shoot. If you try to kill him while he's running, as an average sniper you'll have 9/10 chance you'll miss him, if not even more. And if that isn't enough, you'll be giving away your position. This is the worst thing that can happen to you as a sniper: bullets will quickly come flying your way, and it's difficult to have a good shot under such circumstances. You're also susceptible to grenades and flanking, as you probably won't constantly be checking your flanks. Again, this is one of the reasons Bridge is an easy map to practice on. On wide, open maps, things get more difficult. You won't have a narrow field through which the OPFOR will come storming, but you'll have to carefully check a huge field before you can find targets. Be sure to either have someone with you to protect your flanks, or to check them yourself regularily. If you have binoculars, it's a good idea to use them. Of course, once you spot a target, it takes time to get your rifle and shoot them, during which they can escape. You also haven't got the chance to defend yourself, so you'll have to choose your position wisely. But with those binoculars, you'll have a wider field of view than through your scope, while still having a zoom option. It's a tradeoff, but the choice is up to you.
